In recent years, California has made a point of trying to curb red
light running. Red lights may be enforced either by increased police
patrols or by red light cameras. The Office of Traffic Safety issues
Police Traffic Safety grants to help local police departments focus on
California red light running prevention through increased education and
enforcement. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety's
2007 Annual Performance Report, these grants funded a total of 1,290
enforcement operations statewide, which generated a total of 12,071
California red light tickets. In other words, California police are
serious about stopping people from running red lights, so it's best not
to take the chance.
