The best reason to carry California auto insurance is to protect
yourself in the event of a loss. If you cause an accident and don't
have insurance, you are liable for the damages. Not having auto
insurance could sink you into a black hole of debt. You will also be
creating a tremendous hardship for the other people involved in the
accident if you can't pay for their medical bills in a timely
manner.
However, if taking care of yourself and taking care of other people is
not enough motivation for you to keep an active California auto
insurance policy, the state has some extra incentives for you. You are
required by law to carry a California auto insurance policy with at
least the minimum liability limits. If you do not, you can expect to
pay hefty fines and lose your driving privileges. The list that follows
shows the potential punishments for driving without insurance:
- Suspension of your driver’s license
- Your vehicle could be impounded
Isn’t it better just to get insurance in the first place?
